Lake Tarpon Trip
Sunday, April 30, 2006: Had an off day
on Sunday, so Tim Whittaker and I got a chance to get out on Lake Tarpon
here in the Dunedin area. Tarpon ranks as one of the top five bass lakes
in all of Florida. We went out with Captain Lenny Crispino on his Ranger
Z21 Comanche Series bass boat. We got out on the lake at daylight and
started fishing. We caught 24 fish and had a blast. The weather had
turned off cool, and Lenny was pleased with how many fish we managed
to land. Needless to say, it was fun and I hope to get back out there
someday. Tim Whittaker is a catcher who is also down here on rehab after
having shoulder surgery last season. He has been catching me every time
I've thrown off the mound this spring, and so it was nice to get out
there and do some fishing with him and enjoy the day off the baseball
diamond. By the way, I'll throw to some hitters this week, with hopes
of getting some game action soon thereafter. |

Duff's
1st Annual East Lake Bass Classic |
Easter afternoon I put together a little
bass tournament for the players who have been fishing down here with me
in our neighborhood. There are several lakes that we have all had a blast
catching bass, and so we put our money where our mouth was Sunday afternoon,
and had a little friendly competition of the baseball diamond. I dubbed
it "The 1st Annual East Lake Bass Classic", and printed up some
official entry forms complete with rules and regulations of the tournament.
We had five teams of two players, and we fished from 4:00-8:00, taking
each teams biggest five fish. As "Chairman of the Classic",
I conducted and official weigh-in at 8:05. My team came in second, but
I did catch the "Lunker" of the tourney. The 5 pounder wasn't
enough to push me and my partner (Ben Harrison of Dallas, TX.) to the
top of the leader board, but we had a blast nonetheless. It was a fun
afternoon with the guys away from the park, and everyone had a great time.
So much in fact, that it looks like there might be a Second Annual Classic
on the horizon for next week!
