The
hunting season has come to a close this year and Spring Training is right
around the corner. This past year was a little different for me as I was
undergoing an intense rehabilitation after having elbow reconstruction
in late June. I still managed to take a trip to Utah and hunted with my
good buddy, and former teammate with the St. Louis Cardinals, Jeremy Lambert.
Along with two of my good friends and my little brother we made the 28
hour drive to Southern Utah in search of our first mule deer. Although
only one of us took a nice buck, the trip was a success. The mountains
were beautiful and we saw an abundance of game, including some really
nice Bull Elk and several Golden Eagles. Once I returned, it was off to
Texas to start guiding some whitetail deer hunters. We had a great season
at the Brady Creek Ranch in the Hill country. Most of the year was spent
at Chipper Jones' Ranch in South Texas. The Double Dime (Chipper's Ranch)
has an unbelievable deer herd, and I was fortunate enough to hunt with
Chipper and serve as one of his guides during the commercial hunts. Several
first time deer hunters were able to take some awesome bucks and I got
to be along for their experience. I have packed all my hunting gear up
in exchange for my spikes and glove, and I can't wait to get back to 100%
this season. Hope to see you in the woods one day, and best of luck with
all your hunting excursions in the future.
